Review: A 24.2 MP DX-Format CMOS Sensor, an EXPEED 3 Image Processor and a boatload of features make the Nikon D3200 a reliable and solid choice if you’re on the hunt for a great entry level DSLR camera. With its bundled 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses, you’re off to a good start. The camera produces crisp and clear images, and is fairly easy to use. It performs great on auto mode but its true beauty and ability can only be justified if the user knows how to play with the manual settings. The correct settings can make the images pop and fix the overexposure issues that some users have experienced. The camera’s 24.2 effective megapixels aim to deliver sharp images, even when cropped. It features three focus modes which include Single-servo AF, Full-time-servo AF and Manual focus, and four AF-area modes consist of Face-priority AF, Wide-area AF, Normal-area AF and Subject-tracking AF, perfect for moving subjects. Autofocus is fast and reliable when capturing images but still needs some refinements when shooting videos. Although recording true HD videos is possible, the autofocus can be slow, unresponsive and noisy sometimes. Aesthetically speaking, the D3200’s design is attractive yet tough-looking. The body provides a good grip and there are two color options; red and black. You can also add and choose from a wide variety of optional accessories including WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter, GP-1 GPS Unit, ME-1 Stereo Microphone and SB-400 or SB-700 Speedlight. The Nikon D3200 offers simple, foolproof operation with its Guide Mode and help button. It walks you through the whole process, from navigating the menus to taking actual shots. Controls can be quickly accessed and the 3-inch LCD is bright and easy to read. There are front and rear sensors which enable the user to trigger the shutter on either side via an infrared remote. Battery life also lasts longer than expected, especially with the power-saving feature.
