Pros: 720p Widescreen HD Capture, Autofocus and Face Tracking, Aluminium construction makes unit strong and lightweight
Cons: Best used with only the basic drivers installed, 720p capture needs bright light, frame rate drops in low light

Review: Take your online conversations to the next level with the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p HD Webcam. This handy webcam lets you connect with family and friends in pure 720p high definition widescreen, giving them a clearer picture wherever you may be. Designed for use with both Windows Live as well as Skype, this webcam is a true powerhouse. Microsoft's LifeCam Cinema webcam captures frames at a steady 30 FPS using a glass-element lens for additional image sharpness. There's less worry of keeping yourself in frame because the LifeCam Cinema combines an autofocus system with its intelligent face tracking technology, while its TrueColor feature enhances and complements the webcam's high resolution imaging output quite well for both video and even still-camera capture. A noise-reducing microphone at the top of the camera makes online IM sessions sound much better. Already small and lightweight, the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema webcam is constructed with an aluminum body, giving it exceptional strength and durability. The area around the lens is ringed with a slight plastic lip to keep it safe in the event of accidents. Below the main body of the webcam and attached to it via a ball-and-socket joint is the flexible rubber-coated foot that can also double as a clip to let the LifeCam Cinema webcam to hang on to monitors of any thickness. This rubber stand is very stable, and allows the camera to pan a full 360 degrees around, or nearly 90 degrees upward. Lastly, the LifeCam Cinema has a relatively long USB cord with a built-in management clip to take up the slack. Although the hardware element of the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p HD webcam is solidly made and has very little negative points if at all, the software drivers of this device does have some issues to contend with, specifically during the installation process. Some users comment that it's much better to use the webcam with only the basic driver installed instead of the special LifeCam software, as the latter tends to make video capture lag a bit. Others observed that the LifeCam tends to suffer a bit when used in non-traditional settings, such as for surveillance equipment, because it can only reliably record in 720p 30 FPS in daylight; at night, the frame capture rate can drop to as low as 10 FPS. However, if used for the purpose it was designed for, the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema may be the last webcam that you will ever need.

Pros: High-resolution webcam with low-light correction, Microphone built-in, Long USB cord
Cons: Expensive, Some products have occassional software errors

Review: Keeping in touch with family and friends through an instant-messaging service used to be solely confined to your computer. However, since Internet-capable televisions were introduced, more people have started to use IM applications such as Skype which may come preinstalled into their TVs. After all, they get to do the same thing with the added convenience of only using a single device. Unlike devices for computers, however, accessories for IM programs using Internet-capable televisions are relatively rare. That's why the introduction of a quality device such as the Panasonic TY-CC20W Skype Camera deserves a second look. Marketed as an add-on plug-and-play webcam to their line of Internet-capable HDTV and Blu-ray players, the Panasonic TY-CC20W only takes a matter of minutes from installation to use. All you need to do is to connect the webcam to any compatible device, sign in to your Skype account, and talk away. The Panasonic CC20W takes a different approach to its design, with a long and low profile that sits almost flush with the top edge or side of your device. The plug-and-play convenience of the USB plug used by the CC20W means that you can use it even on different devices. Do note however that you may encounter some mounting issues because this webcam uses a magnetic strip to attach to a Panasonic TV or media player. Like other imaging devices, a webcam is judged by the all-important visual quality factor, and the Panasonic CC20W is no different. Fortunately, this webcam produces high-quality video, especially when paired with a fast and reliable internet connection. It likewise has low-light correction, so you get the best possible image even if your lighting conditions are less than optimal. The Panasonic TY-CC20W's lens captures wide angles easily, while a 4-way unidirectional microphone picks up sound from every possible corner of the room, and optimizes it to reduce echo and background noise as much as possible. One thing that could have made the Panasonic TY-CC20W notebook a very well-rounded product in terms of overall ratings is if it was priced a little bit lower, as right now, the device sells at a rather premium price point. Some people have also noticed that the CC20W has some software issues, like random hanging and hang-ups that happen when the camera is moved. However, if you are looking for the best value for money with minimum fuss and bother, this webcam is definitely recommended.
