TIPS
  1. TVs come in 3 different resolutions Ultra HD (3840×2160), Full HD (1920x1080), HD (1280x720). Larger TVs need higher resolutions to look sharp.
  2. While most models have a default refresh rate of 60 Hz, some models have a 120 Hz refresh rate, which is great for watching live events like concerts or sports.
  3. As a whole, LED HDTVs consume less electricity than other flat-panel technologies. They may also provide better contrasts and greater color reproduction.
  4. Finally, if you prefer future-proof equipment, you could consider getting a 3D-capable HDTV set.

Pros: Excellent Image quality, Thin bezel, Compatible with One Connect
    Cons: Glossy screen, Needs tweaking

Review: Take your viewing pleasure a notch higher with the Samsung HU8550 Series. It delivers amazing picture clarity, impressive 3D and stunning 4K resolution without the curved screen. Excellent image quality is achieved after calibration and audio is slightly better than most HDTVs. The unit’s Local Dimming greatly enhances contrast. UHD Upscaling works great too, providing a discernible improvement. To be honest, the difference between standard HD and 4K UHD is minimal in the 50” and 55” models. Good thing that the HU8550 is available in bigger screen sizes ranging from 60” to 85”. Although 4k sources are still limited, the HU8550 has plenty of useful features that make it worth buying. The availability of the One Connect box also ensures that it is as future ready as it can be. You might need to shell out a bit of money for the box but it is still cheaper, considering that it is designed to fit newer standards, thus alleviating the need for a new TV when the time comes. In terms of connectivity, it is complete with an Ethernet port, an optical digital output, an IR port, three USB ports and a total of four HDMI ports, 1 at the back and 3 on the side. The Samsung HU8550 Series sports an almost-frameless, sleek design, paired with a silver brushed metal stand and an equally attractive remote control. Buttons are sensibly placed and you can use the clicker right out of the box as it already has batteries installed. The TV can even be controlled through voice commands. As opposed to other models, the screen of the HU8550 is subject to reflection. Adjusting the brightness may help reduce glare though. Other features include a full web browser and a Quad Core Processor for faster browsing and multitasking. The unit already comes with four 3D active glasses for viewing 3D content. On a minor note, the 3D glasses use CR1620 lithium coin cell batteries which can be hard to find.

Pros: Solid picture quality, Better upscaling than comparable TVs, Accurate colors
Cons: No web browser, Wobbly TV stand

Review: The Sony X850C gives 4K the dignity it deserves, with its 4K Processor X1 chip and TRILUMINOS Display that guarantee accurate colors and breathtaking clarity. Considering the price of most 4K TVs, it is good to know that it supports both current and future standards, having four HDMI 2.0 inputs with full HDCP 2.2 compatibility, and HEVC and VP9 codecs. The X850C is a decent gaming TV, albeit not perfect. You can even hook up a DUALSHOCK 4 controller and enjoy your PlayStation 3 games without the need for a game console. There are no delays, and black levels are really deep, with no clouding and shadows. Plenty of picture modes including Vivid, Standard, Cinema Pro, Cinema Home, Sports, Animation and Custom can be used so you can get the best picture possible. The Sony X850C is available in three screen sizes; 55, 65 and 75-inch. It promises better upscaling than competing models and features active 3D. However, it doesn’t come supplied with 3D glasses, adding extra costs. Wi-Fi set-up is as simple as it gets. You can enjoy new movie or music releases, or play games, as it gives you access to numerous Smart TV Apps such as Netflix, Amazon Instant, Hulu, Vudu, Pandora and iHeartRadio. There is no web browser though. In addition to the standard remote and instead of a point-and-click, a touch pad remote is included for intuitive control. Voice search even works flawlessly. Through Google Cast, content on your smartphone can easily be displayed and shared on your TV screen. Aside from the unit’s built-in Wi-Fi and four HDMI inputs, there are also three USB ports, an Ethernet port, an RF Connection Input, a Composite Video Input, a Component Video Input, a Digital Audio Output and a Headphone Output. The Sony X850C’s thin black bezel is perfect for wall-mounting. Unlike regular tabletop stands, its dark chrome mirror flat shaft can add the flair you are looking for, but it can be a bit wobbly, posing a risk if you have children.

Pros: Solid picture quality, Wide selection of sizes, Dual-band Wi-Fi, Affordable
Cons: No web browser and HBO Go

Review: Compared to other 4K TVs, the Vizio M series lets you enjoy UHD picture quality at a very affordable price. It incorporates Full Array LED backlighting with local dimming and a 120Hz effective refresh rate for the smaller models, 240Hz for the larger ones. This 4K TV has an amazingly low input lag and does a good job at upscaling content. Whether you’re watching sports and action-packed movies, or just playing games, the Active LED Zones of the M series, together with Vizio’s Clear Action 360 or 720 technology, deliver highly detailed images, fluid motion, superior contrast and deep black levels for a more realistic experience. Picture calibration is quite easy with six picture modes and freedom to configure advanced settings. The M series has a simple interface. Instead of a gesture or voice-based clicker, it uses its own version of smart remote control. The backlit, two-sided clicker features an uncomplicated layout and a full QWERTY keyboard for easy text input. Web content is pretty limited, especially with the absence of a web browser and HBO Go, but all the major apps such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Vudu, iHeartRadio, Spotify, TuneIn and Pandora are all included so you can stream, listen or download as much as you want. The TV has all the necessary inputs. Side inputs include a USB port, a composite input and a component input. An Ethernet port, a digital optical audio output, an RCA audio output and an RF input can be easily located at the TV’s back panel. There are also three HDMI ports, one of which is compatible with HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0. The Vizio M series features a V6 Six-Core Processor, a built-in 802.11ac Dual-Band Wi-Fi and a wide selection of sizes, from 43 inches to 80 inches. It sits atop two metal legs on each side. From a design standpoint, the base both has its pros and cons. It is more stable and appealing but a wider TV cabinet or furniture must be used.
