TIPS
  1. TVs come in 3 different resolutions Ultra HD (3840×2160), Full HD (1920x1080), HD (1280x720). Larger TVs need higher resolutions to look sharp.
  2. While most models have a default refresh rate of 60 Hz, some models have a 120 Hz refresh rate, which is great for watching live events like concerts or sports.
  3. As a whole, LED HDTVs consume less electricity than other flat-panel technologies. They may also provide better contrasts and greater color reproduction.
  4. Finally, if you prefer future-proof equipment, you could consider getting a 3D-capable HDTV set.

Pros: Sharp picture, Great sizes, Easy set-up, Low price
Cons: Limited connectivity, Tinny sound, Poorly-designed base

Review: Given its unobtrusive design and decent performance for a TV in this class, Samsung’s F4000 Series is well-suited for your kitchen, college dorm and small bedroom, or as an extra TV for gaming. Screen uniformity and overall picture quality are both great for such a small TV. With its 720p resolution and Clear Motion Rate of 120, it is highly recommended for gamers, sports fans and those who enjoy fast-paced action. However, the sound is tinny and the volume is not loud enough, even if you turn it all the way up. The small size of the TV could also mean limited connectivity, only having a single USB port, two HDMI inputs and no other audio output, aside from a headphone jack. Luckily, if you need more ports, you can always expand or add more by purchasing a hub. There are two sizes available in the F4000 series, a 19-inch and a 29-inch. Both have glossy black frames with rounded edges which are acceptable for the price. The stand is poorly designed though, not allowing any adjustments. Even when the screws are attached, the base can still be a bit wobbly and unstable. Hanging the TV on your wall using a wall mount bracket might be the next best option. The remote control also has more buttons than your standard clicker but it is clearly marked and has backlighting for simple operation, both in bright and dark rooms. All things considered, if you don’t need all the newfangled features of more expensive and larger TVs and you just want an affordable, tiny TV without cutting corners on picture quality, you’d be hard pressed to find a better TV than the Samsung F4000 Series.

Pros: Great picture, Easy to assemble, Inexpensive
Cons: Flimsy remote, Poor audio quality

Review: The Vizio E-Series prides itself on having a decent feature set at a compelling price. A wide range of sizes, from 24 inches to 70 inches, fits most purposes. Picture quality is highly satisfying, having a 1080p Full HD resolution, a 5 Million-to-1 contrast ratio and a 240Hz refresh rate that guarantees smoother images and minimal lag when gaming. The matte screen also doesn’t suffer from reflections when viewed in rooms with bright lighting. Internet-ready, the E-series comes with built-in Wi-Fi so you can explore other entertainment options and enjoy your favorite apps including Netflix, Hulu, Pandora and Spotify. You can set up a wired connection too through its Ethernet port. The number of HDMI ports varies, from 2 inputs in smaller screen sizes to four inputs in bigger ones. The Vizio E-Series is extremely lightweight and easy to assemble. You only need to tighten a few screws in order to attach the stand. The TV’S frame is not too thick or thin, ideal for both wall mounting and tabletop use. The stand has a different design than most TVs though. Instead of having one stand in the middle, it has two leg stands, requiring a wider piece of furniture. Some of its minor quibbles include its mediocre sound quality which is common with TVs in this price range and its remote control which feels a bit flimsy and has no backlighting. Although the remote control has dedicated buttons for Netflix, Amazon Instant and iHeartRadio, it would’ve been a lot more convenient if you can reprogram the buttons to your favorite channels.
