Pros: Frameless design, Great viewing angles, Sharp picture, Sturdy stand
Cons: Low resolution, Very sensitive buttons, Not VESA compatible
Review: With its nearly all-picture look and impressive image quality, the Asus Designo MX279H will surely capture your attention and look stunning on any desk. The bezel is only 0.8 mm thick and the matte screen promises no glare, even when placed near the window or in a room filled with bright lights. Image quality is quite good, with great color reproduction and no dead pixels. For a screen this size, we admit that it has lower resolution than competing models, with only 1920 x 1080 pixels. Still, images come out clear and detailed. Equipped with Tracer Free Technology, the Asus Designo MX279H has a 5ms response time which promises fluid motion and makes it a great monitor for gaming. As long as you dont expect to it to produce audiophile-grade audio and ear-splitting volume levels, the built-in speakers could save you some space and are adequate for most uses. Wed prefer external speakers for better audio quality though. In terms of connectivity, the monitor has an earphone jack, a PC audio input, a VGA input and two HDMI ports so you can connect multiple devices without any issues. The package contains a VGA cable, an audio cable, an HDMI-to-DVI cable and a power brick that you can put underneath your desk. Controls are located on the bottom right side of the display. Having touch sensitive buttons, operation is not as intuitive as we would have hoped. Each button is set to do multiple functions, and their location, as well as level of sensitivity, makes it easy to constantly hit the wrong button. The monitor is also not VESA compatible. Unlike those with plastic bases, the Asus Designo MX279H ensures great viewing angles and doesnt wobble with the slightest movement. The steel gray base, although fixed, adds to the quality, well-made feel of the monitor. It can even be tilted +20° to -5°, if adjustments are needed.
